Description
Chinese rhubarb is a perennial herbaceous plant native to Central Asia. In small quantities it is used as an antidiarrheal, while at higher doses it is used in cases of more or less marked constipation, due to the action of anthraquinone compounds which, in the large intestine, cause an inhibition of the reabsorption of water and electrolytes and an increase in intestinal pristalsis (in 8-12 hours); local treatment of inflammation and infections of the oral mucosa (in the form of dry extract and associated with salicidic acid).
