Description
Phyllanthus emblica (amalaki) also known as Indian gooseberry, is a plant used since ancient times in Ayurvedic medicine for various properties: adaptogenic, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory. It is a rich dietary source of natural vitamin C, essential for the formation of collagen and for the integrity of the connective tissue, minerals and amino acids and contains numerous phenolic compounds with antioxidant action. Amalaki extract protects human dermal fibroblasts against oxidative stress and is therefore useful for natural skin care. In a recent study, the effects of amalaki extract on human skin fibroblasts were evaluated, in particular for the production of procollagen and matrix metalloproteinases. Amalaki has induced the production of procollagen, making it suitable in cosmetology in anti-aging products, for sun protection and for general skin care. It intervenes as a cofactor in the hydroxylation reaction of the amino acids proline and lysine with consequent stabilization of collagen.
