Description

Sea buckthorn is a small shrub, broad-leaved and deciduous, with thorny branches and lanceolate, opposite, silvery green leaves. It is a dioecious species, with male and female flowers on different plants, only the latter produce the berries. The flowers are small and yellowish green. The fruits are small balls of color, once they have reached maturity, dark orange.

Sea buckthorn has many nutrients that keep the body healthy and prevent disease, along with carotenoids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, polyphenols and phytosterol; it is the richest source of natural omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids along with the rarer omega 7 fatty acids. The berry is a source of omega-7 fats and has a high content of vitamin C, higher than that of citrus fruits and vitamin E.
